The Pavilion, an Edisto classic!

Having visiting family and friends come stay with us on Edisto always presents and opportunity to see things with the joy of a tourist. This weekend we had the pleasure of revistiting The Pavilion. The weather had not been cooperating for our planed boat ride, so we all ambled down to the newly christened Pier Pressure (formerly Coot’s) for a drink and to let the kids play video games. The new bar is more than comfortable and the views of the churning sea that day was mesmerizing.  As the kids poured their life savings of quarters into the video games and munched away on treats from the kitchen our guests enjoyed the sights and sounds of the Pavilion. Their eagerness over the views, new bar, food and out door spaces with beach views made me recall The Pavilions role in many great times we have had as a family on Edisto.  We have been stuck at The Pavilion after a beach day due to a fallen tree blocking our way home. We were tired, sandy and had our dog with us. What seems like could have been a disaster to many people turned out to be one of our favorite times. The dog was welcomed in (old Coot’s out back) we purchased dry warm clothes from the Sanders Brothers at the gift shop and had a great night!

Sometimes you have to take the time to remember why something is special to you. So if you haven’t visited The Pavilion in a while take the time to step in and enjoy it. It has everything you need! (most importantly ice cold beer!)

Spring has SPRUNG on Edisto Beach!

Spring Break 2018 is in full swing—this is obvious by the blooming azaleas, longer (and warmer) days and the check-out lines in the Bi-Lo! Today, the Wednesday Market at Bay Creek Park—where you will find an array of local goods and crafts—has started back up for the season and many exciting events lie ahead in the upcoming months. A few to look forward to are the 4th Annual Dolphin Slam at The Marina at Edisto Beach (April 27th-28th), the Edisto Day Bazaar—Arts & Crafts Festival (May 5th) and the first Arts in the Park event of the season featuring the Appalachian Ballet Company “Bluejeans & Ballet” (June 10th). We still have homes available—be sure to book your stay soon!

Can’t Get Away for a Full Week?

Did you know that you can book our vacation rentals for less than a full week? That’s right, during the Spring, Fall and Winter seasons partial week bookings can be made at any time. In the early Summer (Memorial Day) and late Summer (Labor Day) seasons bookings for less than a week (most homes offer a two-night minimum) can be made once we are within 28 days of your desired arrival date. For you last-minute travelers, shorter stays are even available during the Summer and Peak seasons if you book within 14 days of your arrival. Multiple week stays are always welcome. We even offer month-long stays at select properties during the off-season. Give us a call and our friendly reservation staff will be happy to find the perfect fit for you on your Edisto Beach getaway.

2019 Photo Contest Winner!

Recently, we completed our 2019 Photo Contest. We received so many incredible images of our beloved Island, it was hard to choose just one winner! But, after an office-wide vote, it was officially decided that Debbie Kirkland’s shot of the shelly Edisto shoreline and puffy clouds was a definite favorite. Congratulations to Debbie for winning the $100 gift card and thank you for sharing this image with us!

Enjoy Debbie’s winning photo below along with some of the other stunning entries…

#BookDirect

We sent out a similar message last year, but this is such a big deal that #BookDirect Day is something that will be celebrated annually for years to come. In case you forgot, below is a refresher on why you should remember to #BookDirect…

There is a new movement taking place in the vacation rental industry-#BookDirect. What’s this all about? Online travel agency’s (OTA’s) such as VRBO, Homeaway and TripAdvisor charge extra fees when you use them to book your vacation rental. So, not only are they unfamiliar with the property and area you are interested in, but they are charging you $100 or more for their ignorance! It’s impossible for smaller property management companies to compete with the advertising budget of these mega-companies, so they will likely continue to pop up first in your online search when you are planning your next vacation. The motive behind #BookDirect is to get the word out that no matter where you are planning to go on your next vacation (we hope you’ll be returning to Edisto!) you will get the best rate and experience if you #BookDirect with a local property management agency.

Top 5 Reasons to #BookDirect with Atwood Vacations

1. Save money! When you book directly with Atwood Vacations through our website or by phone you will save $100 or more in service fees for each reservation.

2. When you book directly with Atwood Vacations you are interacting with local professionals who have first-hand knowledge of each of our rentals as well as the area.

3. Atwood Vacations has been providing memorable vacations on Edisto for over 60 years!

4. Get the best prices, specials and promotions. It’s that simple!

5. Search the most comprehensive list of available vacation rentals. All of your options are not listed on OTA’s websites.

2019 Rates are out!

Our 2019 rates are now available online! If you make your vacation plans now, you’ll have the best selection of vacation homes, peak season weeks, and preferred Edisto Beach locations. Reserve your 2019 dates today to secure a spot that your group will love!

Also, we are happy to welcome the homes and condos below to our ever increasing inventory. We hope that one of these new additions will be the perfect fit for your 2019 vacation.

Edisto Beach Holiday Season 2017

It’s the most wonderful time of the year—or so the song goes! It truly is a wonderful time of year at Atwood Vacations & Real Estate. We have just settled down after check-outs from Thanksgiving week and are gearing up for the Annual Edisto Beach Christmas Parade! We always look forward to the parade and this time to come together as a team to begin building our float. This year the theme of the parade is Edisto Christmas Treasures and we are so excited about our float. You’ll have to wait until Saturday to find out what it is, but here are a few images of our creations from years past…

In addition to the Annual Edisto Beach Christmas Parade (always held on the second Saturday in December at 2pm) the weekend is packed with events that bring our little community together in celebration of the Holiday Season. This Friday, December 8th marks the Holiday Market and Mingle down at the Edisto Beach Civic Center from 12:00pm—7:00pm. If you are in the area, this is an opportunity to do a little Christmas shopping and enjoy some live music. Local vendors will be selling arts and crafts, jewelry, baked goods and more!  And finally, the following day after the street parade is the Annual Edisto Auction and Pig Pickin’ Barbecue. This event begins at 6:00pm and will be held at Ella & Ollies. This is an awesome event to attend not only for the delicious food, auction items and chance to socialize but also because the proceeds raised always go to benefit someone in need.

Here is a quick recap of these upcoming events. We hope to see you there!

2017 Solar Eclipse

What is it?

A total solar eclipse will occur on August 21, 2017.  The moon will appear to completely cover the sun in the sky, leaving a huge shadow in the middle of the day.  The sun will also be peeking out from behind the moon, making a halo appear.

How can I see it?

To view the solar eclipse properly without hurting your eyes, you MUST be wearing eye protection from eclipse glasses.  Unfortunately, the eclipse will not be visible from Edisto, but it will be a wonderful viewing in Charleston, only an hour away.  You can make a day trip of it and enjoy wonderful restaurants and historical sites and entertainment in Charleston.  There are also official watch parties happening in Charleston for which you can purchase tickets, like the eclipse party hosted by MUSC (available for all ages.)

Why should I care?

Total solar eclipses are very rare.  If you have the opportunity to see one yourself you should take it! It is the first solar eclipse visible in the USA since 1979 and there will not be another until 2108. People will travel all across the country to be in the line to view the eclipse.  We invite you to do the same and to make an Edisto vacation out of it!

Where Can I Stay?

Luckily for you, Atwood Vacations has plenty of rentals available for you to stay in while you take in the eclipse! The eclipse is on Monday August 21st and we still have rentals with available weeks. Start your search here or browse a list of our rentals by turn day: FridaySaturdaySunday or Monday

Edisto Beach is Good for Your Health!

Have you planned your 2016 beach vacation yet? Okay, so maybe you don’t need a reason or an excuse to go to the beach, but in case you do, here are just a few…

Not only does taking a vacation help to relieve stress, but it also helps you to be more productive when returning to work, helps lower the risk of heart disease and a myriad of other benefits.  According to an article published on npr.org, “Whether you spend your free moments playing sports, socializing with friends or reading quietly, research suggests that the more of it there is, the better you feel and the healthier you are.”

Just getting out in the sun provides great health benefits. Maybe you don’t have to be at the beach to soak in some rays, but isn’t it so much better to frolic under the sun next to crashing waves while breathing in the salt air? Vitamin D, provided by the sun has been proven to promote strong bones via calcium absorption. WebMD claims that this is far from the whole story. “Vitamin D helps regulate the immune system and the neuromuscular system. Vitamin D also plays major roles in the life cycle of human cells.” Another interesting tidbit, “In the U.S., only people who live south of a line drawn from Los Angeles to Columbia, S.C., get enough sunlight for vitamin D production throughout the year.” What are you waiting for? Pack your bags and come on down to sunny Edisto Beach!

Getting too hot soaking in those rays? Cool off with a dip in the ocean, you’ll find great health benefits there too! “Seawater contains vital elements, vitamins, mineral salts, trace elements, amino acids and living microorganisms that can produce antibiotic and antibacterial effects to help promote a healthy immune system.” Swimming in the ocean can help aid in the circulation of blood in your body and can help to fight off ailments from asthma to common aches and pains. “Salt water also promotes new cell regeneration, which plumps up our overall appearance, making us look more youthful and healthy as a result.”

Maybe relaxing while reading a book is more your style and that’s okay! Just breathing in the salt air has great benefits! Air from the ocean contains tiny droplets of sea water enriched with salt, iodine, magnesium and trace elements making you feel more alert, relaxed and energized!

An article published on Forbes.com claims that “more than forty percent of American workers who received paid time off did not take all of their allotted time last year…” The decision to not take a vacation varies for many people with reasons including not wanting to return to a pile of work to a fear of being seen as replaceable. Others just can’t seem to turn off, taking work with them on vacation. Now that you know all of the benefits of taking a beach vacation, don’t be one of those anti-vacation, overworked statistics! Studies show that taking a vacation will make you more productive when you return to work, give you a better perspective facing problems or stresses that you may be dealing with, gives your brain a break allowing you to reset your mind and increase your mental power. Not to mention, “workers who take regular time to relax are less likely to experience burnout, making them more creative and productive than their overworked, under-rested counterparts,” according to about.com.

It’s the beginning of a new year, so go ahead and make plans to make it a better year by planning your Edisto Beach vacation!
