Classic beach house
We loved this old beach house. It has many features reminiscent of the 50s like headboard paneling , old bookshelves and cookware Like my mama had. Yet the kitchen worked fine. Atwood was great. The ocean is very close.

Best family vacation!
We loved our cottage on the ocean. I have been coming to Edisto for 30 years. It’s a true family beach like from my childhood. Our cottage was charming. It had the feel of family. It was homey and you could feel the memories of others as they spoke through ours. We sat on the deck and watched sunrises then cooked breakfast and sat around the table. The house was clean and accommodating for all of our family. Our hopes are to return to the same ocean front cottage next year. We met the owners as they were working on their other house. Wonderful people. Look for us next year!!!

Oceanfront is habit forming
This was a nice, older beach cottage right on the ocean. We enjoyed the roomy deck looking out over the ocean, the sunroom, and close walk to the beach. Our only suggestion would be for another shower upstairs and a new dishwasher. We would stay there again.

Good Ol Beach House
Pause a while is a great ol beach house. We felt comfortable as soon as we walked in the door. It was simple and yes old but it made our family vacation take on a simpler vibe.The kitchen had the basics the furniture was nice and the beds were comfortable. It seemed to need a good deep cleaning. We found lots of cobwebs and the utensil drawers need de-crumbed. The deck got pretty warm; could use an umbrella.The location was perfect! With all of that said it was great and have already recommended it to friends.

Total Relaxation
My family and I had a terrific stay for Fall Break at Edisto this year. The weather was perfect and the beachfront was steps away from the front door. My children are aged 8 and 9 and they spent each day playing in the waves and the sand. We then took evening walks on the shore. It was truly an idyllic vacation. The house was the perfect beach house. All amenities were available including outdoor seating, some boogie boards and an outdoor shower that was invaluable. We would definitely use Atwood Rentals and stay at this location again. We have let all of our friends in Nashville know all about this great vacation and rental company.

Fall Vacation with Babies
We stayed here the last week of September and had no issues with the house. There are a lot of ants beneath the porch where we had our hammock ..but that's just nature and not a reflection of the house itself. Safe for the toddler to roam around the house. Only critique is that the back door is a bit too easy for a 2 year old to open and neither key opens the back door when its locked.

This is our second time staying at this beach house and again we loved it. The only change I would love to see is for the bathroom upstairs to include a shower versus just a tub but either way we plan to stay here again.

Beautiful View
The view from the deck and sun-room was amazing. And access to the beach was good. The main floor living area is roomy and fit our family of 5 well. Only one shower upstairs which was a little inconvenient. The house was very clean. Downstairs accommodations were either unavailable or a little creepy. No enclosed outside shower except for one within the structure of the house which negates the outside part. Other then no outside shower accommodations, I would consider doing another short stay at Pause A While.

Classic Beach House
An older home but very clean; perfect for our family of seven. The only drawback was that there were tiny biting ants in the ground under the home and extending past the dunes and onto the beach.

Pretty good week
This is our 3rd year here. We love the common areas and being on the beach and don’t mind the smaller bedrooms at all. Was pretty warm this year inside though. We kept thermostat on 75 liked we were asked. Atwood suggested we close the blinds. However, the side of the house where most of the sun comes in has no blinds. It would be helpful if you could put some up to help reduce heat during the day. I understand it was hot outside during the week, but the other 2 houses my family rented had no problem with the heat. Hard to understand. All that said, we plan to return next summer and hope it’s better.

It was certainly more hot and humid than usual during your 4th of July week stay. The HVAC system at this particular home is less than 5 years old. We dispatched the HVAC company to ensure everything was operating properly which they confirmed. When we suggested closing the blinds we were passing along the message from the HVAC technician who found them open while he was checking the system, but we will share your feedback with the home owners. As we discussed, the home that you stayed in was built in the late 1940s before builders insulated homes and central HVAC systems were installed so the homes that your other family members where likely in homes that are more newly constructed. We give the HVAC instructions (75 degrees) to every guest who visits during times when we are experiencing extreme heat and humidity so that they can avoid over working the systems which can cause guest to be air conditioning until the unit can recover and/or be repaired. This information was given to us directly by the HVAC technicians. We certainly don't want any of our guests to be uncomfortable during their stay(s), and we hope that you continue to enjoy your visits to Edisto for many seasons to come! Pause, Rewind, Recharge
Wasn't sure what to expect, but the view from the kitchen door through the house to the ocean was spectacular. I've stayed in grander houses but never felt so de-stressed so quickly. Even enjoyed the little lizard that joined us in the sun porch for a day or two. Our family appreciates that there are still a few smaller homes on the beach that are priced within the reach of single family renters. We hope to be able to visit again.

Pause a while suggestions
Suggestions for property: Need hair dryers or put on bring list. Should list small appliances that were supplied so folks know coffee maker style.
Need electric sweeper for the sandy floors and mat to wipe feet outside on deck.
Need a garbage disposal. Need to treat for ants on deck and back steps.
Refrigerator would not cool.

Although hair dryers are not listed as a provided item we will be sure to have it added to the list of what to bring for more clarity. With the amount of use small appliances such as a coffee maker can see during the course of a rental season they are frequently replaced making listing the style difficult to ensure. These types of items can also be replaced by the home owner(s) without our knowledge, and we certainly wouldn't want to misinform anyone. We are happy to confirm this type of information about a specific property prior to your arrival so don't hesitate to contact our office. All properties that we manage are required to supply a vacuum so we will check on it's whereabouts, and we will share your suggestion about the door mat with the home owners. Due to the salinity in the Town water supply garbage disposals frequently become more trouble than they're worth unless the home has a full house Reverse Osmosis system which would be included in the listed amenities. We will check the refrigerator to ensure everything is operating properly, but don't hesitate to contact our office in the future should any appliance appear to be malfunctioning and we will be happy to promptly address. Classic Edisto
This beachfront home was perfect for the 5 of us! We enjoyed being on the beach, having a classic older Edisto home, and having good air conditioning, too! My only wish is that the bedrooms had ocean views, but you can't beat the glassed in porch and amazing deck! We were impressed with Atwood's maintenance department as they came out to repair the dishwasher within an hour of calling the office. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

A comfortable place to “Pause A While”
Our second year here and was just as enjoyable as the first time. If you want a place where you can see the ocean and hear the waves while enjoying the company you are with, then this is the place for you. Living and entertaining area is large and comfortable. The bedrooms although small, give you enough room because after all, who stays in their room at the beach? Great location as You are close to anything that might be going on on the island. Rustic with Great Views
Loved that this house was beach front and had a great deck and sun room. I didn't like that this house had only one shower upstairs. There were two downstairs, however you could smell the mildew. The house has potential, however just needs to fixed up a bit. We still had a great time!

Never Again
Property was clean and located beachfront. It did not meet the expectations created by other homes I have rented from this company. House is very old and had an old smell to it. Bedrooms are the size of closets. Bathrooms are primitive at best. Kitchen is very basic. We had a good time only because of the good friends that were there. The house is one step above camping. The owners are obvious DIYers and not very good at it.

Ladies Church Retreat
Our group enjoyed our stay at Pause a While. The weather was perfect. The house is a basic beach house and was undergoing some repair work, maybe from the recent hurricanes. There was only one shower in the bathroom upstairs, and a tub in the other upstairs bathroom.. That caused us some inconvenience with our group of 9. A full bath with a shower is on the lower level, but you have to go outside and down the stairs to get to it. The screened porch downstairs could use further work. Overall, we were happy with the house and would stay there again, The view from the porch is awesome, but without some awning or canopy would be too hot to sit on during the hot weather. We were happy to see no palmetto bugs or spiders :-)

GREAT Location!
This house was an excellent spot for enjoying the water and playing lots of games. The house is right on the beach and has a great deck. Bring an easy-up for shade on the deck. The house is not a show piece but is clean, comfortable, and has everything we needed for a comfortable week. If you like to bake on vacation, bring pans.

We loved our stay at this beach house. The location in town was perfect, it was about in the middle so access to either side was short and quick. The distance from the beach was amazing and the path to the beach was good. The interior had a nice beach feeling, although I think it might be time for a little updating in some areas. Overall this was an amazing trip and we will definitely be coming back and I would definitely stay in this property again.

The best part of this property was its close proximity to the beach. The living and dining rooms were comfortable, but the bedrooms were small. The major downside of this property was the age. All of our clothes and linens came home with a musty smell.

No complaints
Great house ! Great location! If you are planning to book here i have a few tips, bringing some camp chairs for the ocean view lounge chair are there but you cant see over the porch rails and some of your own pots and pans they have some there but was limited!Also pack some off because the yard was covered in ants no bugs inside home just the yard! It was a great house no problems ! Home was clean upon arrival Atwood vacation rentals staff are always professional and helpful! I'm 100% certain if a problem came up they would have handled it! They certainly went the extra mile for me! We have stayed in several of their houses never a problem that was not handled! I am planning on staying at pause a while for our next visit! The home was more than I expected from looking at the online pictures!! Loved it thanks Atwood for another great year!

Ocean Front, Best Thing ever.
Dealing with the rental company was smooth. The home was quaint, older, but still nice. it is just a walk across the back yard to the beach, thats the best part of the whole place. We spent mornings watching the beautiful sunrises from the deck. The home has everything you need except for your food and you!

Another satisfying visit at Pause A While
Fourth consecutive year that we have rented this property. Perfect location with great beach access. Floor plan allows for an ocean view as soon as you go through the front door. Appliances and furnishings are no frills, which is fine with me. Only complaint was that the inside of the property was not as clean as in the past.

Relaxation

Wonderful. Great beach house, lots of showers! Three showers. Air conditioner broke but repairmen came immediately. Really great layout for us. Too many TVs but hey, you don't have to turn them on.

Laid back good time
This was my third year staying at Pause a While, and probably my 10th rental through Atwood. It is a comfortable house, but lacks some of the amenities of its neighbors. However, the location is worth the sacrifice.

A Wonderful Week at Edisto in the Pause A While
My family enjoyed a wonderful week at Edisto this year. The weather was outstanding even with Arthur hovering off shore. The Pause A While is like our second home as we have taken our beach week there many years and we look forward to many more. The fourth of July Salute from the Shore was great along with all of the flags on the beach - SO PATRIOTIC!!!

Pleasant stay at Pause a While
I have rented through Atwood for over 10 years, and have never been disappointed with their courtesy and professionalism. I value location more than household amenities and furnishings, so some may find this house a little rustic for their tastes. But it is on one of the best parts of the beach in my opinion.

Great Thanksgiving vacation.
Had a great time. Great locations. Older beach house. Clean, well maintained but needs another shower. Able to sleep 10 comfortable but will be a problem for that many to shower.

Great for a Smaller Family
We've stayed at four different houses through Atwood and I think this house was the best value for the money. It was a very short walk through powdery sand to get to the beach. As you may know, there are sections of Edisto where the beach almost disappears at high tide, but this location still had a fair amount of sand even at the highest tide. Although I would have preferred bedrooms with more of an ocean view, the beds were comfortable and the sunroom facing the beach was very comfortable. Because all the rooms are on one floor, this house works best for a smaller family ... we had three adult kids with us. They REALLY missed wireless and I think this would make the house a better value for the money. There was also only one shower upstairs; the other bathroom had just a tub, which no one wanted to use. There are two shower rooms downstairs, but frankly I thought this was creepy. There's no lock to keep people out of the screened-in area on ground level, and I didn't like going down there at night to do laundry, even though I'm sure there are no Jack the Rippers on Edisto. Another negative is that there's no sheltered entrance into the house. The car is sheltered but you have to walk outside to go up the stairs. This is a negative if you are packing or unpacking the car in a heavy downpour like we were. But all in all, we liked this house well enough to reserve it for next year, and we're hoping the owner will install wireless by next year since almost all the properties have it now, and it might be a make-or-break factor for people choosing a house. Yes, your vacation is a getaway time of relaxation, but most people surf the Internet to relax :)

Atwood delivers
A great house, with outstanding beach accessibility. Appliances, and especially the HD TV's, were much better than I have come to expect from beach rental properties. The only issue that arose with multiple guests was only having one shower on the top floor. I have vacationed at Edisto through Atwood for over 10 years, and will contiue to do so.

Practically Perfect!
My students and I had the best time at Pause A While. One of them had never seen the ocean, so I wanted to stay in a place with character and in comfort on the beach. Roomy and clean and a spacious kitchen--everything we needed. I hope I'm able to book it everytime I can come to Edisto.

Pause a moment to learn what the house is really like
while the house and its contents are perfectly clean, it is not at all modern or fresh. The kitchen is oddly equipped (no serving bowls but lots of huge pots) and the bathrooms are ridiculous. The only shower on the main floor is in the master bathroom

so you have to walk though a bedroom to get to it. That the listing considers any of the downstairs habitable is crazy; the showers and bathrooms down there are no better than summer camp-level of mustiness and rustiness, and they are only accessible going

out the front door and down the stairs (i.e. on Palmetto). Give us a more honest assessment of what we are really getting in to, please! On the other hand - location, location, location makes it all worth it.

Edisto Beach, July 2011
This house was exactly what we wanted--an older beach house in a great location. Clean, well-maintained, and nicely furnished. We all loved the sun room and the walk-out deck with 180 views of the ocean. We had a party of four. I would think that with six or more it might seem crowded but some people are OK with that if it's only for a week. We had a fun summer vacation in the hot sun on Edisto Beach. What's better than that? We'll be back!

Pause Awhile was a great house to stay in for our week long stay. Very comfortable, beds were great. Kitchen could use a few more simple amenities like more Tupperware bowls and a new wine opener but it was nothing that slowed us down! Sad to leave and all ready can't wait to come back!

Great location! Throughout our extensive travels we expect comfortable and up to date bedding. The beds were not comfortable. There should be two showers upstairs. Other than that all was fine. Would probably rent again if bedding was updated.
